About Katepwa Lake Provincial Park

Katepwa Lake Provincial Park is situated in the scenic Qu’Appelle Valley of southern Saskatchewan, Canada. The park lies on the southern shore of Katepwa Lake, one of several glacially formed lakes in the chain of the Qu’Appelle Lakes. This gentle valley landscape, carved by retreating glaciers, includes rolling hills, forested areas, and fertile farmlands. The park showcases a mix of native prairie grasses and aspen forest, offering habitat for local wildlife such as white-tailed deer, waterfowl, and a diversity of songbirds. Originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples, the area has a rich cultural history tied to the Plains Cree and Saulteaux peoples. The park today is popular for boating, fishing, swimming, and camping. The sandy beaches provide excellent swimming spots, while the calm lake allows for paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing for species such as walleye and northern pike. Several campgrounds within the park provide both serviced and unserviced camping options, making it accessible for a broad range of visitors. Visitors appreciate Katepwa Lake Provincial Park for its relaxed atmosphere, family-friendly amenities, and beautiful lakeside views. The park is a year-round destination with summer activities dominating, but winter offers opportunities for cross-country skiing and ice fishing. Located near the town of Whitewood and roughly 80 km northeast of Regina, it serves as an accessible outdoor spot for both locals and travelers exploring southern Saskatchewan.
